DESIGN HOTELS™ ARENA* 2011 MEMBERS’ CONFERENCE

Berlin, May 31, 2011 – I– From June 8-10 more than 100 hoteliers from 25 countries will visit Berlin for the Design Hotels™ arena*. The three-day annual members’ conference, this year with the theme of The Neighborhood Approach, will focus on how local integration is key to successful hospitality concepts. Hotels need to become part of the fabric of their neighborhood in order to become a lively meeting place for the creative community. Hospitality experts will join Design Hotels™ CEO Claus Sendlinger and other senior staff in delving into this increasingly important topic. The event is also a platform for hoteliers to exchange ideas and learn from one another.

The Program
The arena* will begin on June 8 with an informal travel trade event in which participants have the opportunity to network with leading travel professionals, Design Hotels™’ representatives and other hoteliers. The gallery Apartment will play host to over 200 people who will be able to sample locally-sourced foods and wines. Movie clips about individual properties will allow participants to discover more about the varied Design Hotels™ portfolio.

On June 9 Babylon Berlin, a historic movie theater in Mitte, will be the setting for a range of thought-provoking talks. The keynote speakers will be Professor Terry Stevens of Stevens & Associates and André Russ of EC3 Global, an international environmental management and certification company. Professor Terry Stevens has worked in the industry since 1970 and has provided strategic tourism advice in more than 40 countries around the world. André Russ is a 17-year veteran of the hospitality industry, whose specialities include sustainability strategies, benchmarking, certification, and carbon measurement. Furthermore, hoteliers will take part in interactive workshops addressing revenue management culture, digital marketing and guest loyalty programs.

To illustrate the neighborhood approach in action, hoteliers are encouraged to explore the nearby shops, galleries and museums. As well as benefiting from discounts of up to 20%, guests will be inspired through interactive experiences at these vibrant businesses, including watching hat-making at Rike Feuerstein, testing scents at Breathe Fresh Cosmetics and tasting locally distilled schnaps and vodka at Best of Germany.

On June 10 Martin Raymond and Chris Sanderson, founders of The Future Laboratory, an internationally-recognized forecasting, consumer insight and brand strategy company based in London, will question and analyze how luxury will be defined in the next decade. This trend briefing will be held at Babylon Berlin-Mitte and is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at a price of EUR 49. www.designhotels.com/trendbriefing_2011
